Conference Topics:  Papers and panels may be on any topic that considers the connection between media and religion, including interfaith issues, international perspectives, papers on popular culture and religion, and the intersection of faith and new or traditional media forms.

Papers dealing with any faith tradition are welcomed. Research papers and panels should not have been submitted to or accepted by another conference.

Paper Guidelines:  Entries must be no longer than 25 pages of text, double-spaced, in 12-point type, excluding notes. The Chicago Manual of Style is preferred.

Papers should be submitted electronically as either an MS Word document with author identification and affiliation on a title page only. Each paper must be submitted as an attachment with a 100-word abstract and contact information in the text of the email to Professor Anthony Hatcher: ahatcher@elon.edu. Authors may submit only one paper. Selected research papers may be included in a proposed scholarly book.

Panel Guidelines:  Proposals should be submitted electronically as a 1-2 page attachment, either a PDF or MS Word document. Panel proposals should include: 1) a brief description; 2) names and affiliations of moderator and participants; 3) a brief summary of each participant’s presentation. Submit panel proposals to Professor Don A. Grady: gradyd@elon.edu.

Submissions Deadline: Both paper and panel entries are due on Nov. 1, 2012.  Authors of accepted papers must attend the Media and Religion Conference. The conference will include a Friday evening keynote address and presentations all day on Saturday. A preregistration website with keynote speaker and lodging details is forthcoming. For information, contact Anthony Hatcher at ahatcher@elon.edu.

School of Communications and Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life

The Elon University School of Communications is nationally accredited, along with only 18 other communications programs at private universities across the United States. ACEJMC accreditation is the highest benchmark of program quality in journalism and communications. The School of Communications has more than 1,000 students in five majors.

The Truitt Center is a safe place for spiritual growth and interfaith exploration. Its mission is to encourage students to honor the spiritual dimension of life, be vitally connected to a faith tradition, embrace the present responsibility and the future with hope, and live the principles they value. The Center will be moving into a new multifaith building in 2013.
